UHW require the ability to accommodate a new helicopter at their current helipad landing facility. The new helicopter has an increased payload over its former model and thus RVW have been employed to assess the maximum capacity of the helipad and advise on any required strengthening works.

The existing helipad itself is a suspended platform consisting of a central metal-concrete composite deck supported from steel beams with a perimeter reinforced concrete deck supported from reinforced concrete beams. The supporting insitu concrete columns consist of some vertical and some raking columns.


In addition to the above, UHW also require the ability to accommodate a sea king rescue helicopter weighing 13.5t. A number of feasible options are currently being developed ranging from an independent seven storey steel frame situated close to the existing seven storey concrete tower and also an independent platform situated above the two storey car park.
