The new Rhymney medical centre contains circa 3,900m2 of integrated health and social care.

The new medical centre is a third party developer led multi-agency project for MedicX with their principal tenants being the Aneurin Bevan Health Board, Caerphilly County Borough Council and two local GP practices. It comprises of a 10 GP GMS facility split between two general practices, a 12 bed inpatient ward, an optometry/dental/podiatry suite, mental health and social services team base as well as health promotion.

The design focuses on providing an exemplar healthcare development in Wales and is sensitive to its location within Rhymney and the nearby conservation area. It is intended to be easily recognisable and innovative as a local landmark to the community in which it serves. It’s a three storey building located on a steep embankment and has associated car parking, drainage with hard and soft landscaping. The ground dictated precast driven piles which supported a steel frame superstructure. Retaining wall design, ground modelling and foul and surface water drainage designs were also required.
