New external steel superstructure to support and maintain 3No. 4 ton, roof level air cooled condenser units over existing wards and M&E plant rooms.
To accommodate Morriston hospital’s future expansion, three new 4 ton air cooled condenser units with associated 2 ton chiller sets are required to be placed directly over an existing second floor level M&E plant room and also operational functioning wards.
The project involved reviewing the existing structure to understand if it could support the additional loading as well as designing and detailing a new two storey steel superstructure. The structure itself supports the new condenser units as well as providing access above for maintenance and access.
Given the client’s clinical priorities for this particular project the survey, design and drawings were undertaken in two weeks allowing the client to go out to tender.
